How to play
Overflow Bible is a daily Bible trivia game. Each day everyone gets the same 7 prompts. Type any correct answer from Scripture, and the rarer your answer, the more it is worth.
The Daily 7
Every prompt asks you to name something from the Bible, like “Name a bird mentioned in the Bible” or “Name a son of Jacob.” Most prompts have many correct answers. You get 25 seconds to type one. If your answer is not on the list, you can keep guessing until time runs out, but each wrong guess takes 5 seconds off the clock. A new set of 7 arrives every day at midnight Eastern time, and every player in the world gets the same 7.
Each prompt shows the passage its answers come from, so you can open your Bible afterwards and read the story for yourself.
Scoring: the rarer, the better
Right answers are scored by how many other players gave the same answer. The answer everyone thinks of first scores the least. A correct answer few people remember scores the most.
| Result | Points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Drop | 1 | A correct answer most players give. |
| Cupful | 3 | A correct answer fewer players think of. |
| Pitcher | 6 | An uncommon correct answer. |
| Overflow | 10 | A rare correct answer only a few players find. |
| Empty cup | 0 | Time ran out before you found a right answer. |
Going down the well
Every point lowers your bucket deeper into a well. The well has 10 zones, and each one is named from a verse about water. You can read all ten in the zones of the well. A perfect day is 70 points, so reaching the bottom takes a lot of rare answers.
Spelling and names
If you misspell a name, the game suggests the answer it thinks you meant, and you can accept it or keep what you typed. A spelling suggestion never costs you time. For people who share a first name, like the several Marys in the Gospels, typing the first name counts as the best-known match. A word or name that is already in the question does not count, so try another answer.
More ways to play
- Yesterday: play the previous day's 7 for practice. It is not scored.
- Unlimited (Endless Jar): keep drawing prompts until you miss three times.
- Weekly 10: ten multiple-choice questions, new every Monday. You play it in the well too: each right answer lowers your bucket, and all 10 right reaches the spring.
- Versel: guess a five-letter Bible word in six tries. Each day's word comes with a category, a hint and the verse it is from.
- Memory Verses: learn three verses each week by filling in blanks, using first letters, putting words in order, then typing the verse from memory.
- Party: play live with up to 8 people, like a youth group or family night. Host a private party that friends join with a five-letter code, or a public party that anyone can find and join. Everyone answers the same 7 questions, and every player has a bucket in the well.
- Archive: go back and play any past day.
