4 Bible “facts” most people get wrong
Some details are so familiar that we assume they come straight from Scripture. Here is what the text actually says, with the verse so you can check it.
1. Jonah and the “whale”
Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.Jonah 1:17 (KJV)
The book of Jonah calls it a great fish. It never says whale.
2. The three wise men
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.Matthew 2:11 (KJV)
Matthew lists three gifts but never says how many wise men there were. The verse also says they found the young child in a house.
3. Eve and the apple
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.Genesis 3:3 (KJV)
Genesis calls it the fruit of the tree. No apple is named.
4. Two of every animal
Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.Genesis 7:2 (KJV)
Genesis 6:19 gives the general instruction of two of every kind, and Genesis 7:2 adds that clean animals went in by sevens.
